I love the concept and approach behind this book. As an adult who has difficulty getting beyond stick figures, I wish that I would have had access to a guide like this as a child. The method is a simple one: the arrangement of basic shapes like the circle, rectangle, and triangle can be used to create easily recognized animals. There are few materials need, basically pencil, paper and eraser. You can get fancy by using crayons or markers.The author takes a detailed step by step approach with the first example, that of a lion. After mastering the nine steps in that one, he provides templates for an elephant, duck, hippo, ram, panda, rooster, dog, pig and horse. One or two rainy days and a child can become confident.
Books like this one not only develop confidence, but foster fine motor skills and can be shared with the entire family. I think the age recommendation of grades one through six is right on target. Give it a whirl......

This is a wonderful book that the kids will really enjoy.It really gives great instructions for anyone to be able to draw animals.Great book.
I so need this book. Even my kindergarten students often ask what something is. I tried the pig, which seemed the easiest, and it looked like a pig! Thank you for the steps and simple shapes. Drawing is more than fun, it is a powerful way to communicate.
I really enjoyed this book. My favorite animals were the hippo, the ram and the rooster. Good and fun enjoyment for young children to help build creativity, self esteem, drawing abilities, etc.
What a great, great, great idea. I just love this. I can't draw at all, and I've always wished I could. If someone had given me this book when I was young, what a difference it might have made.

This is a great little book. The drawings are very simple so the end result is easily achieved. The animals are really cute and the kids will be so proud of their efforts.
